Suitable resources for background reading include lecture notes, textbooks, encyclopedias and specialist dictionaries. (jetty AND\u00a0fishing)\u00a0= 66\u00a0peer reviewed articles in Library Search<\/li>\n \t<li>Using OR between the same terms\u00a0eg. (jetty OR pontoon) = 2,793\u00a0peer reviewed articles. Enable<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/guides.library.uq.edu.au\/tools-and-techniques\/find-quality-information\/google-scholar#s-lg-box-22842618\">View @ UQ Library\u00a0link<\/a><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>to get full text.<\/p>\n<h2><b>Improving your searching techniques<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>You may not be satisfied with your first attempt\u00a0at finding information.<\/p>\n<p>Here are some tips to improve your searches:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Successful searching is an iterative process &#8211; if you don&#8217;t find &#8220;good&#8221; articles the first time try again using different keywords<\/li>\n<li>Check your spelling &#8211;\u00a0\u00a0incorrect\u00a0spelling or typos will retrieve few or no results<\/li>\n<li>Using\u00a0AND between search terms will find articles containing both words, i.e., fewer but more relevant\u00a0results, eg. (jetty AND\u00a0fishing)\u00a0= 66\u00a0peer reviewed articles in Library Search<\/li>\n<li>Using OR between the same terms\u00a0eg. (jetty OR pontoon) = 2,793\u00a0peer reviewed articles. Using OR to combine terms of similar meaning will increase results\u00a0to find articles containing either or both of the words<\/li>\n<li>Use quotation marks around phrases to search for the exact phrase and increase the relevancy of the results, e.g. &#8220;water resources&#8221;.\u00a0 \u00a0This only works for commonly used word combinations<\/li>\n<li>A single useful article can lead to many more &#8211; have a look at the references or citing articles as they will often be relevant as well.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>More about\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/guides.library.uq.edu.au\/tools-and-techniques\/find-quality-information\">search techniques<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2><b>Evaluating information<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>Critical evaluation is integral to the research process.<\/p>\n<p>Use this to determine whether the information you have found is appropriate and relevant to your topic.
